Appendix A - KU-1 and KU-1Q Calibration
Each KU-1 or KU-1Q Viscometer is supplied with a Certificate of Calibration. The viscometers are
certified traceable to NIST calibration fluids which are available from Brookfield. The following fluids
are recommended for use in performing a calibration check.

Select two of the above fluids to run a calibration test on your KU-1 or KU-1Q viscometer. Method
of test is similar to the procedure outlined in Section II, Operation. The frequency of calibration
should be based on your company’s standard operating procedure for test and calibration of
instruments. Be careful to control temperature as close to 25
°
C as possible. The Viscosity
Standards are very temperature sensitive.
The full scale measurement range for both the KU-1 and KU-1Q viscometer is 140 Krebs units
(KU). The viscometer is guaranteed to be accurate within
±
2.0% of 140 KU or 2.8 KU. The
calibration fluid is guaranteed to be accurate within
±
1.0% of the viscosity value stated on the label.
In the case of KU64, this would be .64KU. Therefore, any measurement using this particular NIST
calibration fluid should provide a viscosity reading within
±
3.44 KU (2.8 KU + .64 KU = 3.44 KU
or 4 KU if you round up) of the fluid's viscosity stated on the label.
