PRECAUTIONS
♦ To prevent damage, do not use the tuner in the following locations:
• places where the unit will be in direct sunlight;
• places subject to temperature and humidity extremes;
• places that are sandy or dusty.
♦ To power the tuner, use only a 6F22 or 006P 9V dry cell battery or an optional YAMAHA
AC-05UC or AC-320UC AC Adaptor. Other power sources may damage the device.
* Before connecting the AC adaptor, make sure that the polarities of the plug and the jack
match (—i)— +).
* The PfTCH indicator at the extreme left will light up unless the power switch is turned OFF.
♦ For maximum battery life, always be sure the tuner is turned OFF when not in use.
♦ To prevent possible damage due to leakage of battery fluid, remove the battery from the
tuner if it is not to be used for an extended period of time.
♦ Do not subject the tuner to strong physical shock or vibration. Do not use excessive force
on any of the parts.
♦ Never use solvents such as benzine or thinner to clean the tuner. Wipe clean with a soft,
dry cloth.

■ TUNING PROCEDURES
• Auto Tuning (AUTO)
In AUTO mode, the tuner will automatically select the note closest to the tone input for
tuning. This is convenient for tuning during musical performances.
1. For electric instruments, connect the cord from the instrument to the INPUT jack ©. (At
this time, the OUTPUT jack O can be connected to an amplifier system.)
* If sound is input at the INPUT jack ©, the sound will be transmitted to the OUTPUT Jack 0
whether or not the power switch © is turned OFF. To ensure only the desired sounds during a
musical performance, keep the power switch © in the OFF position.
For acoustic instruments, place the instruments near as possible to the built-in micro
phone
0
when tuning.
* The built-in microphone
0
cannot be used when there is a plug in the INPUT jack ©.
2. Turn the power switch © to the “AUTO" position.
3. If desired, press the pitch switch © to
select the standard A4 pitch. (Refer to
the Pitch Selection section for details.)
When a note is played, the note indica
tor © closest to the corresponding pitch
will light. For half tones the “#" indicator
will light.
* Make sure that only one sound (note) is
played.
Tune the instrument until the note indi
cator
0
corresponding to the note played
and only the center pitch indicator ©
(440 Hz) lights.
The “440” indicator only should light up.

• Manual Tuning (MANL.)
In MANL. mode, each note must be individually selected as needed. This mode is most
commonly used to tune instruments before musical performances.
1. Similar to AUTO mode, connect the electric instrument cord to the INPUT jack ©. For
acoustic instruments, place the instruments near the built-in microphone 0.
Turn the power switch © to the “MANL." position.
If desired, press the pitch switch © to select the standard A4 pitch. (Refer to the Pitch
Selection section for details.)
Press the note switch
0
to select the desired tuning note. The indicators
0
for the
tuning notes will light in sequence (as shown in the pattern below) each time the note
switch

is pressed.

5. Tune the instrument until only the center pitch indicator © (440 Hz) lights.
■ PITCH SELECTION
Recently, it has become common to slightly raise the standard pitch when tuning musical
instruments. The standard pitch also depends on the region and the era. To conform to the
current standard and to harmonize with other instruments, the standard pitch must be
changed from time to time.
• Pitch Selection Method
1. Turn the power switch © to the “MANL.'’or “AUTO" position.
2. Press the pitch switch © once to enter pitch selection mode. An pitch indicator © will
flash at one of the standard pitch settings (A4:436 — 444 Hz).
3. While the pitch indicator © is flashing, press the pitch switch ©. The pitch indicators ©
will flash in sequence (as shown in the pattern below) each time the pitch switch © is
pressed. Each pitch indicator © step represents a 1 Hz change in standard pitch.

4. Select the desired standard pitch. When the pitch switch © has not been pressed for
about 2 seconds, the tuner will automatically return to tuning mode.
* The standard pitch set as above is effective in both “AUTO” and “MANL.” modes unless the
power SH'itch © is turned “OFF”. If the power switch © is turned from “OFF" to “A UTO” or
“MANL. ”. the standard pitch will be reset at 440 Hz and the pitch indicator will be flashing for
about two seconds.
Once the standard pitch (A4) is set, you have only to tune each note until the pifch
indicator © only at the center (440) lights up.
♦ Specifications and external appearance are subject to change without notice.

■ BATTERY CHECK
If the pitch indicators © at both extreme
sides are flashing when this tuner is in use,
it shows that the time has come when the
battery should be changed. In this case,
please replace the battery with a new one
(6F22;006P-9V) as soon as possible.
For convenience, the tuner has a DC 9V
jack; please use an optional YAMAHA AC
adaptor (AC-05UC or AC-320UC) wherever
possible.
^
• Battery Change
The battery compartment is in the rear of
the tuner. Remove the old battery and replace
it with a new one of the same type. Be
careful to connect the battery in the correct
polarity.
* Always turn the power switch © to “OFF”
before changing the battery or connecting an
AC adaptor.
m
TILT SLIT
The tuner can be tilted back by using the slit in the rear panel. Insert a coin or similar flat
object into the slit and tilt back as shown in the diagram below.
