Handle all m aterial carefully. Do not drop from the truck. Do not stack heavy m aterial on top of the
FRP pressure plate to prevent dam age to m aterials. Stack with adequate separation so the m aterial
will not rub together. Store m aterial off the ground, protecting against the elem ents and other
construction hazards by using a well ventilated covering. Rem ove m aterial from package if wet or
located in a dam p area.
CHEC K M A TERIAL
Check glass dim ensions for overall size as well as thickness. O ldcastle BuildingEnvelope cannot be
held responsible for gaskets that are not water tight due to extrem e glass tolerances. O ldcastle
BuildingEnvelope recom m ends a tolerance of plus or m inus 1/32" for the glazing in its curtain wall
system s.
Check all m aterial upon arrival at job site for quality and to determ ine any shipping dam age.
Using the contract docum ents, com pletely check the surrounding conditions that will receive your
m aterials. Notify the general contractor by letter of any discrepancies before proceeding with the
work. Failure to do so constitutes acceptance of work by other trades.
Check shop drawings, installation instructions, architectural drawings and shipping lists to becom e
fam iliar with the project. The shop drawings take precedence and include specific details for the
project. The installation instructions are of a general nature and cover the m ost com m on conditions.
Due to varying job conditions all sealant used m ust be approved by the sealant m anufacturer to insure
it will perform per the conditions shown on the instructions and shop drawings. The sealant m ust be
com patible with all surfaces in which adhesion is required, including other sealant surfaces. Use
prim ers where directed by sealant m anufacturer. Properly store sealant at the recom m ended
tem peratures and check sealant for rem ainder of shelf life before using.
CLEANING M ATERIALS
Cem ent, plaster terrazzo, alkaline and acid based m aterials used to clean m asonry are very harm ful
to finishes. Any residue should be rem oved with water and m ild soap im m ediately. A spot test is
recom m ended before any cleaning agent is used.
SAFETY G UIDELIN ES
W hen cutting and fabricating fiberglass som e safety guidelines should be followed to help pre vent
fiberglass dust from causing irritation of eyes, skin or being inhaled. It is recom m ended that protective
glasses, gloves and sleeves be worn. A 3M S -6779 dust respirator is recom m ended to be worn to
help prevent inhaling of dust. A dust collection system on saw will also help control dust and clean up.
