Maintenance and Troubleshooting
WARNING:
WARNING
Remove Power Before Attempting Any Servicing.
10.1
General
The sign body is finished with a satin black durable coating. Should touch-up become necessary,
we recommend a low gloss satin black paint (RAL 9005 or equivalent). Scuff and clean surfaces
prior to painting.
During troubleshooting or maintenance operations, if it is necessary to open the power supply box
door, it is imperative that the power supply box door be properly closed at the completion of the
operation. (See Figure 31 for instructions on properly closing the power supply box door.)
WARNING:
WARNING
Failure to fully engage the power supply box upper and lower rotary
latches may result in water leaking into the power supply box. Water
accumulation in the power supply box may lead to permanent failure
of the power supply and subsequent failure of the sign.
Work on electrical circuits should be done only by a qualified electrician with a working
knowledge of airfield lighting circuits. Trouble-shooting is accomplished by means of process of
elimination. It should be checked that the POWER is OFF and secured, and once one solution is
tried, POWER is reapplied. Then POWER turned OFF and secured and another solution tried,
etc. Repeat this until the problem is solved.
It is also assumed that the circuit is in proper working order from the isolation transformer
secondary connector (L-823 style 7or 8 receptacle) all the way to and including the power source.
Use of a calibrated true RMS-reading multi-meter with a current sensing clamp-on attachment
