Overview

The Dell PowerVault LTO5-140HH tape drive is a high-performance, high-capacity tape storage device that is designed to back up and restore data and archive and
retrieve files in an Open Systems environment. The drive can be integrated into a system (internal model) or can be provided as a separately packaged desktop unit
(external model). The Dell PowerVault LTO5-140HH tape drive (called Generation 5) is the fifth-generation tape drive in the LTO series of products.

The Dell PowerVault LTO5-140HH tape drive offers a formatted cartridge capacity of up to 1500 GB (3000 GB assuming 2:1 compression ratio) and a maximum
data transfer rate of 140 MB per second.

Figure 1 shows the internal model of the LTO5-140HH tape drive. Figure 2 shows the separately purchased external model of the tape drive.

Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Interface

A drive with a SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) interface can be linked directly to controllers. The SAS interface offers the following advantages over the traditional SCSI
interface:

l

SAS enables multiple devices (up to 128) of different sizes and types to be connected simultaneously with thinner and longer cables.

l

Its full-duplex signal transmission supports up to 6.0 Gb/s.

l

SAS drives can be hot-plugged.
