Reading a Volumetric Chart

1.

Using the rate range charts on pages 29-43 or
61-75, find the chart for your seed, in this example,
Hard Red Winter Wheat.

2.

Find your row spacing at right side of the chart,
10 inch single row in this example.

3.

The speed and rate ranges are determined by
allowable meter rpms. Enter the Meter RPM limits in
the seed monitor to set alarms for operations that are
too slow or too fast.

With your desired seed population in mind (for
example, 110 pounds/ac), note at which field speeds
that population remains in range. These are the
ranges, in pounds per acre, within which the seed is
metered accurately. In this example, speeds of 4 to 6
mph are in range for the “NARROW” wheel, and 6 to
8 mph are in range for the “WIDE” wheel. Assuming
that a slower speed is desired, choose the
“NARROW” wheel.

Verify that you have the correct seed wheel for the
chart, WHEAT NARROW in this example. When
ordering seed wheels, note that there are different
part numbers for:
10HD/25P Series (

wheels) and

20P Series (

wheels).

For Rice, note that a Flow Gate (p/n 817-529C) is
required inside each seed meter. Rice seed wheels
may be ordered:
as wheels only: (“D” p/n, without Flow Gate), or
as kits (“A” p/n, with Flow Gate).

The tables on pages 29-43 or 61-75 are insufficient
for setting the seed monitor to control the ground
drive. The monitor also needs a figure for meter
throughput. Running a calibration (page 26) is the
easiest way to ensure that your material is accurately
applied.

Population Risk:
If your desired seed rate and planting speed fall within the
chart range, proceed to calibration and planting. Otherwise,
you must pick another combination of seed wheel and planting
speed.
