Finger Meter Planting
Follow the steps in “Singulated Planting Overview” on
page 2. At step 2 on page 2, follow the instructions in this
section, which are specific to finger pickup meters.
Recommended maximum speed is 6 miles per hour (11.2 kph),
based on meter rpm limits.
Excess speeds are known to deteriorate seed spacing
control and depth control.
a. For your proposed ground speed, check that your
proposed population is within rpm limits for your 6- or
12-finger meters (this section, pages 15 and 77).
b. Set your meter brushes for your material (page 17).
c. If planting twin row, and indexing is desired, set the
stagger between the rows of each pair (page 19).
If you are planting indexed twin row, at “Singulated
Planting Overview” step 8 on page 3, also check the
row-to-row seed spacing in each row pair. As necessary:
d. Adjust the stagger between pair rows using the
instructions beginning on page 22.
Reading a Finger Rate Range Chart
• Consult the chart for meter type.
• Find your row spacing. Note the range of allowed
meter rpms. Enter these limits in the seed monitor.
• Find the table rows that include your desired seed
population or seed spacing. Typically, a population is
within range in several rows.
For example, 25,000 seeds/ac is within range in four
rows.
• Note the range of ground speeds suitable for that
population.
• Enter the population in the seed monitor.
