Finger Meter Planting
The basic seed rate for finger meters is determined by
the meter finger count (6 or 12), and the hydraulic drive
setup.
Finger meters have two additional adjustments for
optimum results:
1. Meter brush (see page 18)
2. Twin row indexing (see page 20)
Recommended speed is 4
1 ⁄
2
to 5 miles per hour
(7.2 to 8 kph).
Excess speeds are known to deteriorate seed spacing
control and depth control.
Reading a Finger Meter Rate Chart
1. Know your intended seed population (see charts on
page 6 and page 7 if only seed spacing is known).
2. Consult page 16 or page 17 for your meter type.
3. Find the chart for your row spacing, for example,
30 inch twin row.
4. Note which Maximum and Minimum rows cover your
intended population. For example, three rows apply
to 40,000 seeds/ac.
5. Choose a field speed that is covered by the Min/Max
population bands.
6. The listed meter rpm limits are for reference. If you
use a compatible field speed from the chart, meter
rpm is assured to be within limits.
7. Enter the population in the seed monitor.
