WARNING
Sudden actuator movement may result if system hydraulic
pressure is applied while the dc error (command =
feedback) is other than zero.
This may cause injury to personnel and/or damage to
e q u i p m e n t .
Zero the dc error before applying system hydraulic pressure.
16.
Adjust the system controller for zero dc error and apply system
hydraulic pressure according to applicable system procedures.
17.
Lower the load unit crosshead until the upper member of the
force train nearly contacts the connector stud.
18.
Slowly raise the actuator until the connector stud contacts the
upper member of the force train. Adjust the grip as necessary
for proper thread alignment.
19.
Screw the grip into the upper member of the force train until it
is snug against the spiral washers.
20.
Remove system hydraulic pressure.
21.
Proceed to Subsection 3.4 to preload the connector studs.
3.3
Preloading the Connector Studs
The connector studs must be preloaded to prevent backlash.
Preloading the connector studs requires that a full tensile load be
applied to a specimen mounted in the grips.
CAUTION
Equipment damage may result in the following procedure if
the actuator force rating is greater than the rating of any
individual component in the force train.
If the actuator force rating is greater than the rating of the grips (as
specified in Section 1, Table 1-1) or any other component of the force
train (force transducer, etc.), do not perform the following procedure.
Contact MTS for an applicable installation procedure if this is the case.
