Serial Setup –
Access The PDU Using The Serial Connection
This section explains how to access, configure and monitor (control) the PDU using a
direct serial connection to a computer. You can use Serial Setup to configure the PDU
so that it can be accessed with SEMA, a Web Browser or SNMP once connected to your
Ethernet network.
Serial setup requires a Serial Setup Cable (CPI P/N 35941-131, ordered separately) to
make the connection between the PDU and the computer. If your computer does not
have a 9-pin serial connector, you will also need a 9-pin serial-to-USB converter.
Step 1: Download the PDU Serial Access Program
• Download the PDU Serial Access Program [PDUSerial.exe] from the CPI website
• Unzip the file and extract (save) the software program (3 files) into a single directory
on the computer that you will use to configure the PDU.
Step 2: Connect the Computer to the PDU
• Connect the PDU to the computer using the Serial Setup Cable (CPI P/N 35941-131,
ordered separately).
• Plug the RJ-45 connector on the cable into the SER port on the PDU.
• Plug the 9-pin serial connector into the computer.
• Connect the PDU to a power source. The LED display will light up (as shown above).
