Removing or replacing the keyboard

CAUTION:

To prevent information loss or an unresponsive system:

Save your work and shut down the computer before removing the keyboard.

If you are not sure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on by pressing the
power button. Then shut down the computer through the operating system.

Removing the keyboard

Remove the keyboard to access the hard drive and other components.

1.

Remove the battery (see

Inserting or removing the battery on page 39

).

2.

Turn the computer upside down on a flat surface with the front toward you.

3.

Loosen and remove the 2 keyboard screws.

4.

Turn the computer right-side up on a flat surface with the front toward you.

5.

Open the computer as far as possible.

6.

With the keyboard toward you, press down on the keyboard while sliding the keyboard toward
the palm rest releasing it from the retention clips.
