8.1

STANDARD METRIC NUT/BOLT TORQUE RECOMMENDATIONS

Note – These figures are for Cast Iron pump casings only, for the torque
figures for Aluminium pump casings, please refer to SPP Pumps Limited

This information is for reference only. The user must check that the torque figures
listed here are applicable to the fasteners used. Nuts and bolts should be neither
under nor over tightened.

IDENTIFY STRENGTH GRADE AS FOLLOWS:
Black and High Tensile Bolts & Nuts
Grade 4.6
Bolts and nuts to BS4190 (ISO272, 885, 888, 4759/1) Grade 4.6.
Grade marking is optional. Normally there will be no mark other than
the 'M'.
BOLTS - Grade 8.8
Bolts to BS3692 Grade 8.8 (ISO272, 4759/1). Grade marking is
mandatory for 8.8 and above. Bolts will also have trade marks.
NUTS - Grade 8.8
Nuts are marked similar to a clock face. A single dot indicates 12 o'
clock. The second mark, a bar, indicates the Grade,. e.g. Grade 8.8
would have the bar at 8 o' clock. The marks on the nut are indented.
