Commissioning and Operation
Hazardous Noise
Besides local or site regulations for noise protection, SPP Pumps
Limited recommend the use of Personal Ear Protection equipment in all
enclosed machinery situations and particularly those containing diesel
engines. Ensure that any alarms or warning signals are still audible while
wearing ear defenders. Type AT pumps on their own are not generally
considered to be a noise hazard.
Hazardous Gases, Mists, Sprays and Leaks
Be aware of the hazards relating to the pumped fluid, especially the
danger from inhalation of noxious and toxic gases, skin and eye contact
or penetration. Obtain and understand the hazardous substance
(COSHH) data sheets relating to the pumped fluid and note the
recommended emergency and first aid procedures.
Hot Surfaces
Do NOT touch any surface marked with a HOT symbol either during
running or after stopping, until the unit has cooled down. Be cautious
and aware that surfaces can become hot as a result of pumping hot
fluids or where a fault is starting to develop.
5.1
Commissioning Checks
Ensure the system is filled with oil. Bleed air from the pump by releasing the
uppermost vent plug until air-free oil escapes. Re-tighten the plug.
Note: Type AT pumps are not self-priming and must be flooded to pump
effectively.
Check for any oil leaks. Rectify, if necessary, before continuing.
5.2
Starting
Switch on power supply to the unit.
5.3
During Operation
Check by observation that the pump is running without any
undue noise or vibration. If the pump is fitted with a visual indicator check
that the rotation direction is correct.
