Transformer Oil Pumps

Our policy is one of continuous improvement and we reserve the right to alter specifications without giving notice.

Abrasion and Entrapment Hazard

Ensure the pump is electrically isolated. Remove the suction end cover.
DO NOT INSERT HANDS OR FINGERS INTO THE PUMP BRANCHES.
Using a clean probe, carefully check that the impeller rotates freely and
evenly, without jarring. Take care NOT to damage the impeller. Replace
the flange covers if not immediately installing the pump.

4.5

Pump Installation

Both axial flow (in-line) and centrifugal end suction (elbow) pumps
should be mounted using the lugs, or tapped bosses where these are fitted.
The suction and discharge flanges should then be bolted up to the pipework
ensuring no strain is placed on the pump. Use gaskets between the pump
and pipe flanges. Where the pump is not provided with specific mounting
points the suction and discharge pipe flanges are designed to act as
mountings, in turn fully supported by the pipework.

Note: Install the pump with the terminal housing and cover positioned so

that the cable gland is on the underside and the vent hole points
downwards.

Tighten up mounting fasteners to the correct torque for the Strength Grade
and Size of bolts and nuts used. A guide is included in Section 8.0. Correct
pre-loading of fasteners is essential.

4.6

Connecting Electrically

Check that the power supply available is suitable for the pump. Electrical
details are stamped on the Pump Data Plate.

The terminal housing is mounted independently of the terminal block. The
housing can therefore be orientated to give conduit entry to suit individual
requirements. The cable gland entry point should be positioned on the
underside and the vent hole in the cover should point downwards.

Note: Removing the housing will release any oil inside.

Some pumps are fitted with an earth terminal next to the terminal box. Use
this for connecting earth bonding cables.
