1055 Maintenance

This section describes routine maintenance functions that need to be performed periodically.

Chilled Water System

Glycol Solution Concentration and Level

• A warning alarm will be generated when the reservoir level becomes too low. Filling with

water will clear the alarm. By reviewing the alarm history, the rate of water loss can be

determined by checking the time between subsequent water level alarms. The water level

should be inspected by a time in between those alarms.

• Every time water is added it lowers the concentration of glycol in the system. By opening

the drain valve or the strainer cleanout valve with the pump running into a small container

should provide a thoroughly mixed sample of glycol solution that can be used with a glycol

concentration test kit.

• The strainer cleanout valve should be opened periodically to remove any contaminants

in the system. This should be done frequently with new installations until the pipe is

thoroughly flushed. Excessive build up will reduce the flow rate through the system

Refrigeration System

The refrigeration system requires no maintenance. However, perieodic checks of the system

while running is recommended. The following should be checked:

• Compressor Amp Draw

• Sight Glass Moisture Indicator

• Suction and Discharge Pressures

Condenser System

The condenser cools the hot refrigerant in the system. It must be kept clean. A vacuum or

compressed air can be used to periodically clean the fins of the condenser. The bottom of the

condenser can be access from inside the chiller compartment, the top can be accessed by removing

the condenser module side panels.

Cleaning frequency depends on the ambient temperature and the presence of dirt and other

contaminants in the air. In areas with consistently high ambient air temperatures (>90 F) the

inspection frequency should be increased.

DO NOT USE A PRESSURE WASHER TO CLEAN THE CONDENSER FINS. This will bend the fins

and restrict airflow.
