The compressor is also extremely noisy when running backwards. In general, an experienced
technician will not have to look at the gauges.
Fans
The fans should be spinning CLOCKWISE if looking down on the fan. Air should be drawn for
the bottom of the chiller and be discharged out of the top.
SYSTEM STARTUP
Pump 2 (cryo compressor pump) Startup and bypass adjustment.
• Go to the ON/OFF screen.
• Turn on PUMP 1. Since the piping system is not full of water, and the flow switch is on
the return line inside the chiller, the flow switch may trip before the pump has time to
fill the pipe. Reset the flow alarm. The pump will restart. It should now run normally. If it
continues to shut off, make sure all valves on that line are open. If there is flow, and the
system is simply tripping out because the pipe is not full, the pump start flow time delay
setting can be increased. Or the flow alarm can be temporarily bypassed. Make sure to
restore these setting to the default if they are changed.
• Check the discharge pressure. Slowly shut off the discharge valve and watch the
pressure gauge. It should not exceed 100 psi.
• If the pressure climbs past 100 open the valve. Go to the pressure relief bypass (T-
Handle valve on the chiller discharge fitting inside the cabinet) and open the bypass
(counter clockwise). Repeat the discharge shut off valve closure until the bypass is
adjusted to 100 psi.
• Open the discharge shut off valve fully.
Pump 1 Start up and bypass adjustment.
Turn on pump 1. The pump may experience the same flow errors as for PUMP 2. Follow the same
procedure as listed above if necessary.
The bypass valve (ball valve on centrifugal pump discharge) should be opend until there is no more
than 35 psi difference across the Pump 2 discharge pressure gauge and the return pressure gauge.
This is per Philips Medical Systems specifications.
Refrigeration System Startup
NOTE: To get the most accurate start up situation, there should be an actual load on the chiller. IF
there is not a load on the chiller, the discharge temperature setpoint should be raised so that the
refrigeration system will not get the water too cold.
