Powersolve Electronics Ltd. has been in business as a specialist in power supplies and power
conversion technology since 1987. During this time we have supplied millions of power
conversion products such as AC-DC power supplies, DC-DC converters, DC-AC inverters, Battery
Chargers, Batteries, Uninterruptible Power Supplies and many other products. We are supplying
major customers in the electronics industry, communications, datacoms, telecoms, industrial, oil and
gas and in fact most types of industry where there is the need for power and power conversion
products. In particular we have a lot of experience in lithium batteries and lithium battery chargers
for the communication industry particularly in encrypted radio systems where we have
supplied many millions of pounds worth of intelligent battery chargers used in radio communication
equipment for the emergency services.
We have now added a new range of commercial mobile power bank products for charging devices
that use USB chargers such as mobile phones, GPS, MP3 players, tablet PC’s, digital cameras and
in fact anything that can be charged via a standard 5V USB output. All of our products have been
fully tested for battery capacity, conversion efficiency and battery protection circuits. All battery ratings
quoted are the “real” capacity of the batteries fitted. Most of our products are very slim, light weight
and compact and are manufactured using thin lithium polymer battery cells. They will fit easily into
the pocket or handbag. Conversion efficiencies of our products are high and recharge times are
kept to a minimum with 2A charging inputs on the higher powered products.
Some suppliers of these types of devices make wild claims about battery capacity, recharge times
and the number of charges achievable for your mobile phone from one battery pack. The first thing
to understand is that whatever the mAh rating of the battery in our battery power pack, not all of this
is available to charge your phone or other equipment. The Lithium battery is rated at 3.7V. The USB
output is 5VDC. Therefore the 3.7V has to be converted to 5VDC through an internal voltage
regulator, so there are losses in efficiency here. When you charge your mobile or other device this
will also have a 3.7V lithium battery fitted. So the 5V from our power pack now has to be dropped
to the charger level within the mobile, which is 4.2VDC, therefore resulting in more inefficiency. Add
to this the fact that the battery will give more of it’s capacity when operating at normal ambient
temperature than it will when it is cold. So you can understand the problem. On average the
conversion rate from our products is around 80 to 85% and up to 90% for some models. But this
does depend on temperature, discharge rate and age of the battery. In the specification attached
we have tried to give an indication of what performance you can expect when charging an average
mobile phone and also the recharge period for charging our battery pack. For example if you see
claims of 5 hours charge time for a 10,000mAh battery pack when it only charges at 5V 1 Amp input
then this is completely ridiculous! A 1 Amp charger would take more than 10 hours to charge a
10,000mAh (10Ah) battery! When charging our power bank battery packs you can use either a 5V
1A or 2A USB charger. If our model is rated at 1A input it will simply use only what is required from
a 2A charger. And if rated at 2A input it will obviously charge faster with 2A USB charger than with
a 1A version. Same applies to your mobile devices you can use either the 1A or 2A output where
fitted. The current limiting will be done in your device so you cannot overcharge your device.
Also included in this brochure are some USB travel charger products with interchangeable AC heads
that enable them to be used in most countries in the world. All of the USB products are not just CE
marked for Europe but with full safety approvals.
We hope that you will find this information useful and hope you will find our products of interest and
above all reliable when used with your mobile devices.
