OVERVIEW
Dana Corporation’s Commercial Vehicle Systems Division is pleased to introduce the new
Spicer LMS hubcaps, an innovative addition to its already industry-proven line of Low
Maintenance System (LMS) wheel-end assemblies. This “best-in-class” wheel-end design was
developed in accordance with the goal of meeting and exceeding customer expectations for
durability and reliability, as well as reduced maintenance and lifecycle costs.
The Spicer LMS Hubcap system provides for superior vent operation and robust
contaminant exclusion, thus, not only simplifying maintenance, but also ensuring longevity of oil-
lubricated wheel-end components.
This next generation Hubcap assembly features a corrosion-resistant material that is up to 1-½
pounds lighter and significantly stronger than aluminum hubcaps. This proven system is robust
enough to exceed countless hours of sodium-and magnesium-chloride spray tests, salt spray
tests and high-pressure-wash testing without the slightest sign of corrosion or water ingestion.
AVAILABILITY
This innovative Low Maintenance Hubcap System (LMS) will be made available for shipment
beginning May 1, 2004. This maintenance friendly hubcap and vent system will be available for
both aluminum and iron hubs. The Spicer LMS hubcap system is available for standard
six-bolt, wheel-end hubs.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Spicer LMS Hubcap system called upon state-of-the-art wheel-end design technology
to incorporate such integral patent pending features as a multi-labyrinth contaminant exclusion
system, which is designed to prevent contaminants from reaching the wheel end. Further, this
innovative Hubcap System comes standard with a highly reliable ventilation system that
effectively vents the wheel-end without a continuously open port or any restrictive filter that
requires replacement, could become clogged, and/or lead to premature wheel-end failures.
This hubcap and vent system will also contain the Spicer LMS hub identification on the
vent that will provide information to the service technician for help in identifying the wheel-end
without having to remove the hubcap, thus further minimizing downtime and maintenance costs.
Coupled with a magnetized side-fill plug to trap metallic wear particles these product features
will assure extend vehicle uptime through improved wheel-end performance
A standard version of this new hubcap is also available for non-LMS hub applications. The LMS
or standard non-LMS, will ensure superior contaminant exclusion for conventional steer-axle
and trailer-axle wheel end systems. The standard, non-LMS hubcap version is recognized by a
black Spicer hubcap vent, while Spicer LMS Hubcap system is identified by a blue Spicer
vent, with LMS identification tabs.
