6.5 Configure Remote LPD Printing on the
Host
The proce dure you use to conf igure your Un ix host( s)
to a llow pr inting to your net wor k r e mote pr int ser ver var ies
be tween dif fer ent var ieties of Unix. The proce dure be lo w
c an be use d f or Unix var ia nts tha t are re late d to BSD Unix,
s uch as SunOS or Lin ux. For othe r ver s ions of Unix,
c onsult your s yste m doc umentat ion, kee ping in mind that :
1. The pr int s er ver should be tre ate d a s a BSD
ne twor ke d pr int s er ver host.
2. The hos t na me should be the na me (or IP a ddres s)
that you ha ve as s igne d t o the pr int se rver.
3. The pr inter na me ( or q ueue na me ) on the r e mote
host should be lpt1, lpt2 or lpt3 , t he na me of the pr inter
port on the pr int ser ver.

the superus er ( root) . To c onf igur e your Unix host for
pr int ing,
1. Optiona lly, ass ign a na me c or r esponding t o the
pr int se r ver ’s IP a ddre ss. You ca n a dd this a ddr ess to the
/etc /hos ts f ile , by adding a line suc h a s:
