adapter, the tape may become damaged. To
take up slack in the tape, turn the gear 3 in
the direction of the arrow.

• During tape loading and unloading, do not

touch the reels 7 for safety and tape
protection.

• Tapes recorded in S-VHS or S-VHS ET mode

cannot be played back on a regular VHS VCR.
Playback is possible with a VCR equipped with
the S-VHS function.

• During special-effect playback (slow motion,

still frame, etc.), the picture may vibrate or
noise bars may appear on the screen.

This Menu Screen cannot be accessed while
recording.
1) Set the Power Switch $ to “

” while pressing

down the Lock Button #.

2) Press the MENU Wheel 1 in. The TOP MENU

Screen appears. Rotate the MENU Wheel 1
to select the desired menu or function and
press it.

• To go from TOP MENU to CAMERA MENU,

rotate the MENU Wheel 1 to select “

3 TO

CAMERA MENU” and press it.

• To go from TOP MENU to SYSTEM MENU,

rotate the MENU Wheel 1 to select “

3 TO

SYSTEM MENU” and press it. SYSTEM
MENU has 2 pages. To go to the next page,
rotate the MENU Wheel 1 to select “

3 TO

SYSTEM MENU 2” and press it.

3) Rotate the Menu Wheel 1 to select the

desired setting and press it.

4) Press “

3 EXIT” to exit from any menu.

TOP MENU

Manual exposure adjustment is recommended in
the following situations:
• When shooting using reverse lighting or when

the background is too bright.

• When shooting on a reflective natural

background such as at the beach or in the
snow.

• When the background is overly dark or the

subject light.

1) Rotate the MENU Wheel 1 to select

“MANUAL”, then press it.

2) To brighten the image, rotate the MENU

Wheel 1 downward.
To darken the image, rotate the MENU Wheel
1 upward.

The exposure control level increases/decreases
(maximum ±06).

(GR-SXM301AS only)
To brighten the scene when natural lighting is too
dim.
OFF : Turns off the light.
AUTO: Automatically turns on the light when the

camcorder senses insufficient lighting on
the subject.

ON

: Always keeps the light on as long as the

camcorder is turned on.

• It is recommended to set M.W.B. (

੬pg. 14) to

in CAMERA MENU when you use the

video light.

• The battery pack’s charge may be low even

though the battery indicator (

) does not

blink, the camcorder may turn off automatically
when you turn on the video light, or when you
start recording with the video light turned on.

• When the Video Light mode is set to “AUTO”:

• Depending on the lighting conditions, the

video light may keep turning on and off.

• While the “Sports” or “High Speed Shutter”

mode is engaged, the light is likely to stay
on. While the “Twilight” mode is engaged,
the light will not activate. (

To make dark subjects or areas even brighter than
they would be under good natural lighting.
OFF: To cancel the effect.

A AUTO : The shutter speed is automatically

adjusted (maximum 1/2 sec.).

1 20X: The shutter speed is set to 2/5th of a

second to provide 20 times the sensitivity.

2 50X : The shutter speed is set to 1 second

to provide 50 times the sensitivity.
