DATA LINK WITH NO EXTERNAL TIMING

Either end of the link may be set to ‘master’, with the opposite end set to ‘slave’. The timing
originates from the internal clock of the master and is sent out to the customer’s unit.

DATA LINK WITH EXTERNAL TIMING

In this example the master modem accepts timing from the G.703, X.21 or V.35 interface and uses
this to time the link.
