If you are unable to adjust the Counter-Balancer
as directed, contact Wood's Powr-Grip for additional information.
OPERATION
Prior to operating the Counter-Balancer/Lifter unit, make sure the Counter-Balancer has been
adjusted correctly, as directed in the preceding section. Also make sure that all hardware is
secure, along with the counterweight ballast.
WARNING: Secure counterweight ballast before moving Counter-Balancer.
Refer to the charts in SUGGESTED CONDITIONS TO KEEP UNIT LEVEL to follow. These charts
show what must be done to keep the Counter-Balancer/Lifter unit level when handling loads of
various weights (column A). Each chart lists the factors relevant to keeping the unit level,
including the amount of weight needed on the control lines (columns E & F).
WARNING: Extreme lifter motion will be experienced if control lines are not
secured prior to lifting or releasing loads.
Control lines are required to counteract the Counter-Balancer's tendency to see-saw when it is
loaded or unloaded. Attach control lines to the Counter-Balancer as shown in the OPERATING
FEATURES. The required length of control lines varies depending on the job requirements.
Control line #1 is attached to the shackle at the rear end of the Counter-Balancer and helps
prevent the loaded unit from tipping forward when the load is lifted. Control line #2 is attached
to the lift spool of the P2 Channel Lifter when it is inverted, or to the shackle at the front end of
the Counter-Balancer when the P2 Lifter is upright. This control line is required to prevent the
unit from tipping backward when the load is released.
WARNING: Changes in the loading of the Counter-Balancer may cause sudden
changes in its orientation; caution is required when attaching the lifter
to load or releasing it.
The operators must recognize that the amount of weight required on either the front or rear
control line suddenly changes whenever a load is attached to the P2 Lifter or released from it
(see charts).
The operators should anticipate and compensate for these changes
.
When the amount of weight required on either control line is greater than 60% of the weight of a
person, it should be tied off to a suitable object, to prevent the unit from flipping suddenly.
Refer to the P2 Channel Lifter's instruction manual for operation of the Lifter. To help maintain
control during the tilt, attach the vacuum pads slightly above what will be the center of the load
when it is in the upright position.
When the Counter-Balancer/Lifter unit is not in use, store it in the appropriate way, based on the
length of storage time: For short-term storage, the Counter-Balancer should be supported in a
manner that protects the Counter-Balancer and the P2 Lifter from damage. When placing the
lifter in medium- to long-term storage, it may be easier to remove the P2 Lifter from the Counter-
Balancer. The best method of storage for the Counter-Balancer is to place it in its shipping crate.
Refer to the P2 Lifter's instruction manual for storing the lifter.
