ASSEMBLY
Set-Up Procedure
1) Remove the top of the shipping crate and all devices for restraining the Counter-Balancer
during shipping.
2) Suspend the Counter-Balancer's main section from a crane as follows: Identify the maximum
load weight and the lifter weight (see SPECIFICATIONS: Maximum Load Capacity and Lifter
Weight in lifter's instruction manual), as well as the Counter-Balancer weight and the weight
of ballast material placed in the counterweight enclosure (see SPECIFICATIONS: Weight
preceding and Adjustment Procedure to follow). Add to these figures the maximum control
line force that you expect to exert (see OPERATION to follow). Select hoisting equipment
(crane and hoist, when applicable) rated to carry the combined total of these figures.
Note: Any application of the Channel Lifter and the Counter-Balancer must conform to all
statutory or regulatory standards that relate to the hoisting equipment when used in its
geographical location (eg, relevant OSHA standards in the USA).
Make sure the lift slings are securely attached to the Counter-Balancer, as shown in the
OPERATING FEATURES. Then attach the sling's hook point to the hoisting equipment hook.
WARNING: Hoisting equipment hook must be fitted with restraining latch to
prevent lift slings from slipping off under any circumstances.
Use the hoisting equipment to raise the main section out of the shipping crate.
3) Install the adjustable counterweight arm in the Counter-Balancer: Remove the counterweight
arm from the shipping crate, using lifting equipment or sufficient manpower, as well as
appropriate lifting technique. Insert it into the main section, making certain the
counterweight enclosure faces upward. Slide the counterweight arm to the desired position
(see Adjustment Procedure to follow) and align the holes in the main section with those in the
arm. Then secure the counterweight arm using the counterweight arm locking bolt (located
near secondary lift sling shackle).
4) Attach a P2 Channel Lifter that is modified for use with the Counter-Balancer
1
: Place the lift
bar of the P2 Lifter between the two ears of the Counter-Balancer's main section, which are
located at the end opposite the adjustable counterweight arm. The P2 Lifter must be inverted
(ie, with lift spool pointing downward) for reverse tilt angle applications (see OPERATING
FEATURES). Insert the lifter attachment bolts and tighten them securely. Now the Counter-
Balancer is operational.
5) Perform Operational and Load Tests for the P2 Lifter as directed in MAINTENANCE: T
ESTING
S
CHEDULE
of the lifter's instruction manual.

modified P2 Lifter or are not sure, contact Wood’s Powr-Grip for more information.
