Evaluating scanning performance, continued
Consider integration of scanning applications with other common applications,
including innovative ways to eliminate steps and ease integration.
The HP Scanjet N9120 can be integrated with ISIS/TWAIN/WIA compliant
applications with the included ISIS, TWAIN and WIA drivers so you can set up the
scanner and begin scanning immediately.
The HP Smart Document Scan Software can also be used to integrate the scanning
application with third-party applications through the application link in the destination.
HP works with leading document management software vendors to make sure their
applications are compatible with HP products. See www.hp.com/go/gsc for a
complete listing of certified applications.
Other factors, such as the rate of data transmission from the scanner to the computer
are also important to consider.
The HP Scanjet N9120 supports Hi-Speed USB 2.0 for optimal data transmission
speeds.
Ease of use is also an important attribute when considering overall scanning
performance. The speed of a very fast scanner may be negated by unintuitive or
cumbersome software, needing to utilise multiple applications to complete a task, or
confusing scanner controls.
Measuring scanning speed
There are many ways to measure speed. The quoted speeds for the HP Scanjet N9120 are
derived from common industry methods that measure typical scanning speeds without
influences such as software startup times, computer performance, lamp warm-up time from a
cold state, etc. The method below describes the process HP uses for measuring its quoted
speed.
• Speeds are measured after machine warm up and application is initiated
• The quoted speed is measured from the first page scanned to the last page ejected
using a 50-page stack size
• Application used is HP Smart Document Scan Software
• The system must meet recommended system requirements
• Other applications running on the system may impact experienced scan speeds
Evaluating scan quality
Compare the quality - text, mixed text and colour graphics - of scanned documents with
scanned output from other comparably priced scanners. Again, it is important to consider a
combination of features, such as scanning performance, software interface, and overall
ease of use when making quality comparisons.
