Care of the device + repair service
Use only recommended spare parts. Do not use a device where
any parts are damaged. Any repairs, as well as replacement of
the nozzles or changing the gasket must be carried out only by
an authorized specialist dealer for liquid gas or by the manufacturer.
In case of a repair bring the device back to the shop where you
have purchased it. From here it can be sent for maintenance and
repair back to the manufacturer.

Do not change settings of the device or make modifications from
those set by the manufacturer. It could be dangerous to change
the structure of the device on your own authority, to remove parts
or to use parts which are not approved by the manufacturer.

Environmental instructions
The mixture of the liquid gas used is environmentally friendly,
which does not burden or damage the environment and it is not
dangerous for the ozone layer. Follow the regulations for the liquid
gas. The cartridge or its contents do not have a restricted shelf-
life.

Disposal gas cartridge
Totally emptied cartridges can be disposed of through using the
waste recycling system. Cartridges which are not completely
emptied have to be disposed of in collection centres for harmful
substances.

Disposal device
The device is produced of recyclable materials. To dispose of or
to recycle this device, get in touch with a local Recycling
Office or a waste disposal company.

Use of the Weed Destroyer BG 500
Destroying weeds chemically is not up-to-date any more. Moreover,
use of such agents is forbidden in many countries. By purchasing
Weed Destroyer BG 500 you got a device with which you can
biologically kill weeds and destroy moss with success. The weeds
will be heated up but not burnt. Due to the quick rise of the
temperature the cell fluid expands, the cell walls burst, the protein
coagulates and the weeds die. For that purpose it is sufficient that
the plant is heated from the distance of approximately 10 cm from
the burner head. After several days the plant wilts and should be
removed. Certain plants, which are particularly resistant, have to
be re-treated in an interval of 3 weeks. The use of this warming
up method is completely poison-free. That is why no harmful
substances can either get into the food chain or into the water.

The device destroys weeds at the outdoor steps, courtyards,
house entrances/doorways, pavements, terraces, garage gateways,
parking spots, sandpits, house walls, etc. The device is also ideal
to light a grill. In winter the device is also a useful assistant to de-
ice and defrost small areas.

We hope the Weed Destroyer BG 500 will be a useful and reliable
helper for many years.

Technical data
Flame temperature:

approximately 1.600 °C

Gas type:

mixture of propane/butane

Category of the device:

Mixture of propane-butane, direct
compression

Nominal heat load/capacity:

approximately 200 g/h,
approximately 2,75 kW

Nozzle No.:

32

Nozzle:

Ø 0,32 mm

The power rating during the normal operation can vary from the
values set in the instruction for use (e.g. when using longer on
large areas the performance declines. The reason for this is the
icing up of the cartridge due to the withdrawal of gas).
Important information: The ambient temperature has an
essential influence on the performance of the device. As a
general rule is that the performance decreases at low
temperatures.

Technical and optical parameters are subject to change.

Storage and transportation
After end of work, before storage and transport, always unscrew
the gas cartridge from the device.
Ensure that the device has cooled down and the gas supply valve
is closed, before you store it securely and in a dry place. The
same applies for transport. Here you must ensure that the device
is secured and cannot fall over or down. Always transport the
device and the gas cartridge separately. Important: When screwing
off the gas cartridge the gas supply valve of the gas cartridge
closes automatically and no further gas can escape.

Fitting the gas cartridge
The Weed Destroyer is completely assembled apart from the gas
cartridge. Before you attach the gas cartridge (No. 5) to the device
- outside, away from possible combustible sources, as e.g. open
fire, pilot flames, electrical cooking devices, and in a sufficient
distance from other persons - , please ensure that the gas regulation
valve (No. 1) is tightly closed. Before you attach the supplied gas
cartridge onto the weed destroyer, remove the protective cover
on the gas cartridge. To do so, you will need a screwdriver or a
similar tool. Now, holding the gas cartridge vertically, screw it
tightly onto the gas supply valve (No. 6), as shown above (picture
I), so that no gas can stream out. The gasket (No. 8) has to be
checked before each new connection of the gas cartridge (visual
check – see picture II). Test gas tightness by spreading soapsuds
over the parts where the gas streams or spray them with a leak-
seeking-spray. Check the gas tightness of your device only outside.
Never seek leaking connections using a flame, always use
soapsuds or a leak-seeking-spray (as described)!

How to operate the device
Close the gas regulation valve (No. 1). Remove the protective
cover on the gas cartridge (No. 5). Afterwards attach the gas
cartridge (No. 5) properly onto the gas supply valve (No. 6). Hold
the Weed Destroyer BG 500 as shown in picture I and screw on
tightly the gas cartridge (No. 5) in direction of the arrow so that
no gas can stream out. Afterwards open the gas regulation valve
(No. 1) slightly and light the flame by pressing several times the
red piezo ignition button (No. 3). For security reasons, it is necessary
to hold the burner head at an angle pointing downwards. The
bottom of the cartridge shows also vertically downwards (see
picture I). If the gas regulation valve (No. 1) is opened too far, too
much gas streams into the burner (No. 4) and the flame can be
lighten badly. Therefore when starting the operation open slightly
the gas regulation valve (No. 1) (appx. ¼ rotation in direction (+)).
Afterwards press several times the red ignition button of the piezo
firing (No. 3), so that the gas automatically lights at the burner
(No. 4). After that the gas regulation valve (No. 1) can be opened
more, so that the flame can reach its full performance (by turning
the regulation valve in direction of (+) the gas supply increases).
When using the device, ensure there is sufficient distance
(approximately 10 cm) to the plant you want to destroy. Do not try
to treat weeds after either rain or dew as the gas consumption
becomes too high and the flame could be affected. The same
applies if there is a strong wind.

Switching off the device
By turning off the gas regulation valve (No. 1 – turning the regulation
valve in direction of (-), the flame at the burner will extinguish after
a short delay. This delay occurs as there is still remaining gas in
the extension tube (No. 2) after the gas regulation valve has been
turned off.

Changing the gas cartridge
Ensure the flame has extinguished before you loosen the gas
cartridge.
Afterwards unscrew the gas cartridge from the device. The device
must cool down completely before it is stored or transported.
Check the gasket (No. 8, picture II – visual check) before you
connect a new gas cartridge. Change the gas cartridge outside
and in a sufficient distance from other persons. Before you attach
the gas cartridge (No. 5) to the device - outside, far away from
possible combustible sources, as e.g. open fire, pilot flames,
electrical cooking devices, and in a sufficient distance from other
people - , please ensure that the gas regulation valve (No. 1) is
tightly closed. Now, holding the gas cartridge vertically, screw it
tightly onto the gas supply valve (No. 6), as shown above (picture
I), so that no gas can stream out. The gasket must be checked
before each new connection of the gas cartridge.

Cleaning the device
To clean the device, wait until the burner has cooled down and
use a dry cloth. Do not use any cleansing agents because the
openings in the burner and the nozzles could become blocked.
