Start-up, Shut-down, Cleaning and maintenance – Crelando 48420 User Manual

• Furthermore you can protect the working area e.g. with a foil (the fabric
can stick together when applying wax) or you can stretch the fabric
onto a frame before you start working.
• The textiles to be worked on must be clean and residue-free. Particular
care must be paid to new textiles, which must be pre-washed to remo-
ve possible residues.
• For this wax batik method, textiles made of cotton, linen and half-linen
are perfectly suitable. We recommend cotton for the first attempts sin-
ce the melted wax penetrates optimally into the fabric.
• Liquid wax stiffens fast. For this reason we recommend melting only
the amount of wax which is needed. Unexperienced users should
therefore put just a very small amount of wax into the wax pot at the
beginning.
• Work without interruptions. The applied wax cools down fast and har-
dens.
• Before you start with the work, try out the device by applying the wax
on a test fabric.
Start-up
• Fasten the wax pot to the device (see pos. I and II). Never screw the
wax pot by force!
• Put the safety stand on an even, clean and dry working area (see pos.
VI).
• Put the Tjanting tool on the safety stand (see pos. VI).
• Fill the wax pot (see pos. IV) with wax pellets (fill approx. ½ of the pot
with wax pellets).
• Make sure that the Tjanting device is placed securely on the stand
(see pos. VI) and plug the jack of the device into the socket (see pos.
III).
• Preheat the device for approx. 6 minutes (the heating time is depen-
dent on the fill-up quantity in the wax pot) until the optimal operating
temperature is reached.
• The optimal operating temperature is reached after the wax pellets
have completely melted in the wax pot.
• The melted wax is applied (see pos. V) on the fabric by means of a
small spout.
• You achieve ideal results when applying the liquid wax, if you only
touch the fabric lightly with the top of the spout. Do not use any pressu-
re. Putting pressure can lead to damages to the fabric and the spout.
• If the wax application is completed and the wax has hardened, the
fabric can be dyed.
• Before coloring, always follow the instructions of the manufacturer of
the batik color. You can obtain batik color and batik wax in DIY shops.
Shut-down
• Put the Tjanting tool on its safety stand as shown in pos. VI (through
improper handling possible risk of burns and fire!)
• The wax pot must be put onto the provided safety stand with high at-
tention so that it stays in position.
• Now disconnect the device from the electrical outlet (unplug it).
• Let the Tjanting tool cool down completely.
• The remaining liquid wax can be kept in the wax pot. When the de-
vice has cooled down completely, the wax hardens and can be melted
again at a re-startup without any problems.
• If the appliance has not cooled down completely, do not leave it unat-
tended.
• Depending on the fill-up quantity in the wax pot, the cooling-down time
can last up to 20 minutes.
• The environmental temperature has also influence on the cooling
down time.
• When the completely cooled down device is not in use, store it in a
safe place, protected from dust and moisture.
Tip
• The wax can be removed from the dyed and dry fabric by boiling, iro-
ning with blotting paper or by dry cleaning. Follow instructions of the
dye manufacturer.
• Should the spout be blocked, please proceed as follows: Unscrew the
wax pot of the Tjanting device and put the wax pot into boiling water
for a few minutes. Attention! At this process the wax pot must always
be disconnected from the Tjanting device.
Cleaning and maintenance
Only clean the Tjanting tool with a dry cloth when it has cooled down.
Only clean the surface of the tool tip with a dry cloth or a cleaning fleece
(e.g. CFH No. 52349) when it has cooled down. A cleaning fleece is
available in many building stores and can be obtained there.
