Architectural Overview

The Krystal 4300 is expandable
from single-user/single-channel up
to an eight-channel pool with four
simultaneous users controlling
from one to four channels each.

The Krystal system has three
primary components or building
blocks:

Control Panels

The Controller System

The Video Processor

Various Krystal systems are offered
with these building blocks.

The Krystal Control

Each control panel includes a
floppy disk drive for effects storage
and retrieval. Users can develop
and store “macros” on disk to
automate often-repeated sequences.

Independent Function Timelines
give you the finest control of each
attribute of your effects. Clipboard
editing with CUT, COPY, PASTE
makes changes quick and precise.
Macro programming further speeds
operation by permitting often-used
key sequences to be learned and
replayed at the touch of a button.

The Krystal provides 3D control of
up to four channels. These may be
positioned using Source & Target
coordinates. Channels can be
assigned to either of two global
channels and can be transformed
independently. Camera channel
allows viewing from any
perspective.

The control panel can be installed
flush in a counter top or placed on
the counter surface. Refer to the
installation planning guide for
details.

The Grass Valley 2200-2i
production switcher which
contains a built-in Krystal control
panel, can control one or two
Krystal channels.

The Krystal control system
includes an Effects Manager for
each simultaneous user, providing
real-time microprocessor control.
Up to two Effects Manager modules
can be installed in a Krystal system.

The Krystal Video Processor

The Video Processor contains all
the video processing hardware
required to manipulate in real time
an individual image and key in 3D
space. One Video Processor Frame
is required for each video/key
channel.

Each channel includes two auto-
timing serial digital component
video inputs and two auto-timing
serial digital component key inputs
to facilitate A:B switching. Source
selection can be accomplished
using the data interface to Grass
Valley Model 2200, 3000, and 4000
production switchers. An unused
Key input can also be configured as
a mask input. Preview, Program
and Key outputs, are provided for
each channel.

Krystal is capable of 525 or 625 line
operation; selectable session by
session. 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios
are supported.

The editor interface permits Krystal
to be controlled using a tape
machine-protocol.

The auxiliary port handles
peripheral protocol for simple
learn, recall, and event triggers.
