2.3 Testing the Ethernet connection
When you connect the sensor to a powered PoE switch, the indicator lights should light
up. The actual position and function of the lights depend on the switch, but figure 2.7
shows the indicators on a typical PoE switch. There’s one indicator showing that the
instrument is drawing power, another indicator (next to the Ethernet connector) shows
the connection status. In this case a 100 Mbit/s connection is formed between two
instruments at the switch ports 1 and 3 (a sensor per port), and there is a PoE device
connected in these ports, 1 and 3.
