Having selected the appropriate system profile, select the 'Send Setup' option from the 'Logger'
menu or press the control button shown above. The following dialogue box will appear;-

Select the 'Send' option. The software will connect to the APM system and a dialogue box will
display the transfer progress.

Should Problems Occur:-
Is the correct serial port and communications protocol set up on the P.C.?
Is the APM system powered up correctly and connected to the P.C.?
If the system is being Setup from a power off condition it may be necessary to reset the logger.
This is achieved by temporarily disconnecting both connectors going to the logger’s 'Battery'
and 'Power' sockets.

The APM system will enter its run mode as soon as the configuration profile has been
transferred. A time delay will occur as the inlet heater rises towards its correct operating
temperature. Once the working temperature has been reached calibration and measurement
cycles can commence. (typically 56°C in 3-5 mins). For optimum stability and accuracy, a warm
up period of one hour should be provided.

Zero Reference Check.

The system performs an automatic zero calibration cycle once per hour. During this cycle the
main sample flow is halted and the optical probes sample chamber is purged using a source of
clean dry air. A zero baseline is established for future dust measurements. The

z

ero calibration

cycle lasts for approximately 30 seconds and can also be manually initiated by pressing the
'Function - Calib' keys on the logger. A manual zero check may be desirable to confirm that the
correct zero reference level has been established following any adjustments to the system.
