OPERATION:
BEFORE STARTING :
iMportant: the engine and hydraulic reservoir are
shipped without oil. see the engine operator’s Manual
packed with your log splitter for the type of crankcase oil,
fuel, etc. the engine manufacturer recommends lead-free
gasoline only.
The hydraulic reservoir should be filled with an SAE 30 hydraulic
oil (if temperature will be above 50º Fahrenheit when operating
unit) and SAE 20 hydraulic oil (if temperature will be between
32º Fahrenheit and 50º Fahrenheit). If hydraulic oil is difficult
to obtain, automatic transmission fluid can be substituted and
should be used instead of hydraulic oil when temperatures are
below 32º Fahrenheit. DO NOT mix transmission fluid with
hydraulic oil. Use only clean oil and take care to prevent dirt
from entering the hydraulic reservoir.
Hydraulic Filling Instructions:
1. With the log splitter on level ground, remove filler cap. SEE
FIGURE 16.
2. Using a funnel in the fill spout, fill the tank with hydraulic oil
until fluid is visible through the fluid level viewing window.
SEE FIGURE 16.
3. Start Engine (see instructions in manual).
4. Move control lever forward to extend the hydraulic cylin-
der all the way. (It is normal for the cylinder to not move
smoothly as it purges the air from the system.) SEE FIGURE
17 AND/OR 18.
5. Move control lever to the return position until ram is retract-
ed fully. SEE FIGURE 17 AND/OR 18.
6. Turn off engine.
7. With cylinder in the return position, open the filler cap very
slowly to allow any air to escape that may have been trapped
in the reservoir during the initial filling procedure.
8. Top off the reservoir by adding hydraulic fluid until visible
through the fluid level viewing window.

WARNING
FLUID ESCAPING FROM A VERY SMALL HOLE CAN BE
VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE. DO NOT CHECk FOR LEAkS
WITH YOUR HAND. ESCAPING FLUID UNDER PRES-
SURE CAN HAVE SUFFICIENT FORCE TO PENETRATE
SkIN, CAUSING SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY OR EVEN
DEATH. LEAkS CAN BE LOCATED BY PASSING A PIECE
OF CARDBOARD OR WOOD OVER THE SUSPECTED
LEAk. LOOk FOR DISCOLORATION.
CAUTION
DO NOT START OR RUN THE ENGINE WITHOUT HY-
DRAULIC OIL IN THE HYDRAULIC RESERVOIR AND
MOTOR OIL IN THE ENGINE.
