Bulky material, such as stalks or heavy 1 iranches,

should
be
fed
into
the
chipper chute. See figure 9.
A
WARNING:
Make
certain
the
chipper
chute door is ciosed when not in use.
IMPORTANT:
There
is
a
fiail
screen
located
inside
the housing in the discharge area. If the flail screen
becomes
clogged,
remove
and
clean
as
instructed
in
the Maintenance section below.
For
best
performance,
it
is
important
to
keep
the
shredding
blade
and
the
chipper
blades
sharp.
Refer
to Maintenance section, page 9. If the composition of
the
material
being
discharged
changes
(becomes
stringy, etc.) or if the rate at which the material is dis
charged slows down considerably, it is likely that the
shredding
blade
and/or
chipper
blades
are
dull
and
need to be sharpened or replaced.
I\/AINTENANCE
A
WARNING:
Always
stop
engine
and
dis
connect
spark
plug
wire
before
:leaning,
lubricating
or
performing
any
r
»pairs
or
maintenance.
LUBRICATION
Lubricate the pivot points on the release hai idle, hop
per assembly, chute deflector and chipper c lute once
a season using a light oil.
ENGINE
Refer
to
the
separate
engine
manual
fc
r
engine
maintenance instructions.
Maintain
engine
oil
as
instructed
in
the
separate
engine manual packed with your unit. Read ind follow
instructions carefully.
Service air cleaner every 25 hours under nc rmal con
ditions. Clean every few hours under extrer lely dusty
conditions.
Poor
engine
performance
and
flooding
usually indicates that the air cleaner shou d be ser
viced. To service the air cleaner, refer to th( separate
engine manual packed with your unit.
The spark plug should be cleaned and the gap reset
once
a
season.
Spark
plug
replacement
is
recom
mended
at
the
start
of
each
season;
check
engine
manual for correct plug type and gap specifications.
Clean
the
engine
regularly
with
a
cloth
or
brush.
Keep the
cooling system
(blower housing area) clean
to
permit
proper
air
circulation
which
is
essential
to
engine performance and life. Be certain to remove all
dirt and combustible debris from muffler area.
CLEANING
The shredder may be cleaned by running water from
a
hose
through
the
hopper
assembly
and
chipper
chute with the engine running. Allow the shredder to
dry thoroughly.
Wash
the
bag
periodically
with
water.
Allow
to
dry
thoroughly In the shade. Do not use heat.
REMOVING THE FLAIL SCREEN
If
the
discharge
area
becomes
clogged,
remove
the
flail screen and clean area as follows.
