Keeping Seams Straight
KEEPING SEAMS STRAIGHT
To keep the seam straight, use one of the num
bered guidelines on the needle plate. The
numbers indicate distance, in eighths of an
inch, from the needle. If you want a 5/8-inch
seam, for example, line up your fabric with the
number 5 guideline.
GUIDING AND SUPPORTING FABRIC
Most fabrics need only to be guided in front
of the presser foot as shown. Some fabrics,
however, require support while being stitched:
• For filmy sheers, knits, tricots, etc., apply
gentle
tension by holding fabric in front and
back of the presser foot.
• For stretch fabrics, apply
firm
tension front
and back when stitching in the same direc
tion as the stretch. For seams not on the
stretch direction, stitch in the conventional
manner, guiding fabric in front of the presser
foot.
