B Connecting audio equipment with digital audio input terminals
Note when connecting the optical digital audio cable
Dust protection cap Align the plug with
the terminal
• Remove the dust protection cap from the optical digital audio
output terminal and connect the cable firmly so that the
configurations of both the cable and the terminal match.
• Keep the dust protection cap and reattach when not using the
terminal.
Optical digital audio cable
• Do not bend the optical digital audio cable when connecting it.
System component or amplifier with digital audio input
terminals and speakers
• Read the instructions for the amplifier and speakers or system
component for connection details.

When you have finished connection
• Make changes to “7 Digital Audio Output” as shown (■ page 36).

•These changes to digital audio output must be made, other­
wise signals the equipment cannot handle, bitstream, will be
output. If the signals are output as bitstream, “noise" will be
output which can cause harm to your ears and speakers.
m If this is set to “No”, no audio will be output when DVDs recorded in
96 kHz linear PCM are played. (Audio will be output as it is if the
DVD does not have copyright protection recorded on it.)
Connecting audio equipment with 2-channel audio input terminals
You can enjoy stereo sound if you connect an amplifier or system component that has 2-channel audio input terminals.

• Read the instructions for the amplifier and speakers or
system component for connection details.
Audio cable
To enjoy Dolby Pro Logic
• If you connect an amplifier with Dolby Pro Logic
decoder, you will also need to connect center and
surround speakers to enjoy surround sound. Read
the instructions for the equipment for connection
details.
•Turn V.S.S. off {■• page 21). Dolby Pro Logic
decoder will not function correctly if V.S.S. is on.
When you have finished connection
• Go to “7 Digital Audio Output” and set “1 PCM Down Conversion" to
“No" (■• page 36).
