Preparing cappuccino:
1. As well as preparing espresso, this appliance can create steamed milk for making a cappuccino.
2. Measure approximately 140 ml of water into the coffee pot; this should come halfway to the level marked as
. Pour it into the water tank and close the lid.
3. Pour about 100ml skimmed milk into a long, narrow heat-resistant jug that can fit under the steam pipe. The
milk and the jug should both be cold. The milk will expand in volume almost three-fold when it is heated;
make sure the jug is large enough to allow the milk to expand.
4. Put the end of the steam pipe in the milk jug. (Remember that the jug should be less than half-full). Make
sure the nozzle is only just below the surface the milk. Connect the appliance to the mains and then turn the
function control to the « » position. The indicator light will glow to show that the water is being heated.
After about two minutes, steam will begin to flow from the end of the steam pipe into the milk. Move the milk
jug gently up and down while keeping it upright. You’ll hear the familiar sound of steam being forced through
the milk.
Please follow these instructions to create the best results when steaming milk:
a) Don’t use more than a half-cup of cold milk in your heat-resistant jug and don’t fill the jug more than half full.
b) Don’t steam the milk for more than 45 seconds. A smaller quantity of milk will need less time.
c) If the appliance is still producing steam after you’ve finished preparing your milk, turn the function control to
the coffee-making position while keeping the steam pipe in the milk. Any remaining steam will flow into the
coffee pot, allowing you to safely remove the milk from below the steam pipe.
Notes:
• It is particularly important that you never leave the appliance unattended when making steam. Always remain
with the coffee maker until you have switched it off.
• As well as heating milk, steam from the appliance can be used to freshen and warm up cold coffee that was
prepared earlier.
Important information:
• We recommend that you clean the end of the steam pipe immediately after use to avoid any deposits forming
on it. Take great care when the appliance is still hot.
• Always remove coffee residue from the filter after the appliance has cooled down. This should only be done
when the power has been disconnected.
• Consume your coffee as soon as possible; it can lose its flavour or become sour after a while.
• Never leave water in the water tank when the appliance isn’t being used.
• Only use water (or concentrated lemon juice for cleaning purposes, as detailed later) in the water tank. Never
pour any other liquid into the tank. Don’t ever pour previously-brewed coffee into the tank!
• Regularly clean and de-scale the coffee maker.
Maintenance and cleaning
Attention! Always switch off the appliance and unplug it from the mains before cleaning it. Wait until everything
is completely cool before you start cleaning.
Never immerse the appliance in water, never spray it with water and never hold it under a tap.
Clean the outside cover of the appliance with a damp, soft, lint-free cloth and then wipe the cleaned surfaces with
a dry lint-free cloth. Take care not to allow any moisture inside the cover. Let the appliance dry completely before
re-using or storing it.
When cleaning the appliance, never use solvent (acetone, benzole, petrol, alcohol, etc.) as these may solve the
casing material, or the internal parts of the appliance if they get into. Do not use cleaning agents with coarse or
grinding effect.
Never remove the cover of the appliance.
The filter holder, drip tray and drip grid can all be washed in warm water with washing-up liquid or placed in the
upper basket of a dishwasher (away from the heating element). The coffee pot should only ever be washed by
hand. After washing, rinse the pot with warm water. Make sure all parts are completely dry before replacing them
on the coffee maker.
Important: the steam pipe must be cleaned when the appliance is switched on. After steaming your milk, place an
empty container under the steam pipe and turn on the steam for 1-2 seconds. This jet of steam will clean the pipe
from the inside.
The coffee maker should only be packed away for storage when it is completely cool and has been cleaned. If you
do not wish to use the appliance for a while, put it in a plastic bag and store it in a dry, dust-free place. Make sure
the water tank is completely dry to prevent any mould from forming. The mains cable must not be wound round
the appliance, even when stored, because this can cause the insulation to deteriorate or break.
Instructions for handling the glass coffee pot:
The glass coffee pot can break or crack if the following instructions are not followed:
a) The coffee pot has only been designed for use with this coffee maker. Do not use it for any other purposes.
b) Never put the coffee pot on an electric or gas hob. Never put the coffee pot in a microwave oven.
c) Do not place a hot coffee pot on a wet or cold surface.
d) Never clean the pot with a scouring liquid, with a scouring pad or with any other scouring material. Always
wash the coffee pot by hand and never put it in a dishwasher. Take particular care not to drop or knock it.
e) If you are making several batches of coffee, always pour out any remaining coffee and allow the pot to cool
