• water up to number ‘4’ on the coffee pot (4 small cups of water) is enough for 4 cups of espresso coffee.
Important! Never fill the water tank with more than 240ml. This is the level of water that reaches
the bottom of the metal ring attached to the handle of the coffee pot.
3. After pouring the required amount of water into the tank, close the lid by turning it clockwise. Make sure the
lid is closed tightly but do not over-tighten it. Never tilt the lid when tightening it because this may damage
the water tank or the screw threads.
4. Remove the filter holder (part no. 6.) moving 1/4 turn to the left, and place the filter basket. (part no. 5.)
5. Put the necessary amount of suitably ground coffee into the filter (according to the measuring signs inside
the filter). Clean the excess from the rim of the filter. Do not press down the ground coffee in the filter basket,
and do not fill it with coffee above the 4 cups sign.
Note:
• Please take care when choosing or grinding coffee. The texture (grain size) of the ground coffee you use will
influence the flavour of your drink and can also affect the operation of your coffee maker.
If you are buying coffee that is already ground, always try to select coffee that has been produced for an
espresso coffee machine. (This is usually indicated on the packaging).
• If you grind your own coffee beans, make sure you produce ground coffee that has a medium texture. If the
ground coffee is too coarse, the resulting drink will be weak. If the ground coffee is too fine, the brewing
head and filter can become blocked. This will increase brewing time and may reduce the amount of coffee
produced, resulting in a bitter taste. In addition, using coffee that is too fine may cause excess pressure in the
coffee maker. This would result in the safety valve opening.
6. Place the filter inside the filter holder, then replace the filter holder in the appliance. The filter holder must
be fitted correctly in its ‘seat’ below the brewing head. To do this, align the arrow on the filter holder handle
with the arrow icon at the left-hand side of the appliance. Ensure all three lugs on the upper edge of the filter
holder are fitted in the hollows under the brewing head. Now press the filter holder upwards and turn it to
the right at the same time. The filter holder should now be tightly fixed in place; always check it is fitted safely
before continuing.
Notes:
• An incorrectly-fitted filter holder can drop or fly from the appliance due to steam pressure. This may damage
the coffee maker or cause an injury. To prevent this, please note the following points:
When fitting the filter holder, always take care to ensure that all three lugs are fitted into the socket on the
brewing head before tightening the filter holder. The filter holder must be parallel to the brewing head, not at
an angle. If all three lugs are not fitted in the socket when the filter holder is tightened, the filter holder and/
or the outlet may be damaged.
Always apply appropriate force when fitting the filter holder. Turn the filter holder with a firm, steady
movement while avoiding any sudden jolts or irregular movements.
• After fitting the filter holder, always check it is firmly attached to the appliance before switching on. If you
notice that the filter holder requires less effort to fit than usual or if it does not remain locked in place,
immediately stop using the appliance and take it to a specialist engineer.
7. Put the lid on the glass coffee pot so that the opening on the edge of the cover is in line with the lip for pour-
ing. Now put the pot on the drip tray under the filter holder, making sure the hole in the filter holder is in line
with the hole in the middle of the lid.
8. Connect the appliance to the mains and switch it on by turning the function control to the coffee-making
position marked « ». The indicator light will glow.
9. After about two minutes the water in the tank will start to boil. This is passed through the ground coffee and
will drip into the glass pot. When you’ve finished making coffee, always switch off the appliance by turning
the function control to OFF. The indicator light will go out. You should now remove the mains plug from the
socket. After switching off and disconnecting the appliance, remove the coffee pot and serve the coffee. If you
forget to switch off the appliance, a built-in heat limiter will activate. This will cause the indicator light to go
out. You must switch the power off, remove the mains cable from the wall socket and allow the appliance to
cool down if this happens.
10. Before removing the filter holder for cleaning or preparing more coffee, make sure there is no steam pressure
in the water tank. To do this, check that the appliance is unplugged and then place an empty container under
the steam pipe. Now turn the function control from OFF to «
», which will release any remaining steam
from the tank. Please take care to avoid any injury when releasing boiling water or steam. Only open the
water tank after releasing any steam. After removing the filter holder, do not touch the filter until it has cooled
down. Finally, remove the filter from the filter holder and clean out the coffee residue.
Important notes:
• After using the coffee maker, always let it cool down for at least ten minutes before using it again.
• Be very careful if you are using the coffee maker before it has cooled down completely. In particular, take care
to avoid burning yourself when checking for steam in the water tank, when removing the water tank lid and
when removing the filter holder. You should also be careful when removing hot coffee residue and emptying
the filter. (Empty the filter by pushing the latch on the upper part of the filter holder handle with your thumb;
you can also hold it in place when turning it upside-down by pushing the latch forward with your thumb).
• Before removing the cover of the water tank and the filter holder from the appliance, possibly before pouring
another dose of water into the water tank, needed for the next brew, always disconnect the appliance by pull-
ing out of the mains cable plug from, the wall socket.
