DEMINERALIZER BOT TLE
The Demineralizer Bottle is a plastic bottle with a pour spout and a
special filter inside the cap. The bottle is partially filled with an ion
exchange resin containing an indicator to show when the exchange
resin has been exhausted. The indicator will change from dark
bluish-green to yellow amber at which point the resin should be
replaced.
A. IN STRUC TIONS FOR USE
1.

Remove cap and fill bottle with water to be demineralized.

2.

Recap, make sure spout is closed, and shake vigorously for 30
seconds.

3.

Open spout, invert bottle, and gently squeeze to dispense the
demineralized water.

B. DEMINERALIZER CARE
1.

Do not heat water over 100° F.

2.

Keep the resin covered with water at all times.

3.

Leave the bottle fairly full when storing.

TO TAL SUL FIDE
1.

Collect sample with a minimum of aeration and analyze promptly.

2.

Fill a clean test tube (0106) to the 5mL line with the sample.

3.

Add 15 drops of *Sulfide Reagent A (4458WT). Cap and mix.
CAUTION:

Reagent A is a strong acid solution and must be

handled with great care.

4.

Add 3 drops of *Sulfide Reagent B (4459WT). Cap and mix. Wait
for 1 minute.

5.

Add 12 drops of Sulfide Reagent C (4460WT). Cap and mix. A
blue color indicates sulfide.

6.

Insert Sulfide Octa-Slide Bar (3414) into Octa-Slide Viewer
(1100). Match sample color with a blue color standard. Read results
in ppm Sulfide.

TO TAL HARD NESS
1.

Fill the test tube (0608) to the 5 mL line with the sample water.

2.

Add 5 drops of *Hardness Reagent #5 (4483WT) and mix.

3.

Add 5 drops of *Hardness Reagent #6 (4485-EGWT) and mix. A
red color will develop.

4.

Add Hardness Reagent #7 (4487WT) one drop at a time (count
each drop), swirling to mix after each drop, until the red color
changes to blue.

5.

Each drop of Hardness Reagent #7 equals 1gpg.

TO TAL AL KA LIN ITY
1.

Fill the test tube (0722) to line labeled gpg (14.6mL) with sample
water.

2.

Add 5 drops of *BCG-MR Indicator (2311-EGWT). Swirl to mix.
A blue-green color will develop.

3.

Add *Sulfuric Acid, 0.15N (6272WT) one drop at a time (count
each drop), swirling to mix after each drop, until the blue-green
color changes to pink.

4.

Each drop of *Sulfuric Acid, 0.15N equals one grain per gallon
(gpg) Alkalinity.

pH
1.

Fill the test tube (0106) to the 5 mL line with sample water.

2.

Add 8 drops of *EverPure pH Indicator (8006-01WT). Cap and
mix.

3.

Insert Chlorine/pH Octa-Slide Bar (3490) into Octa-Slide Viewer
(1100). Match sample color with a color standard on right side of
Octa-Slide Bar. Read results in pH units.

CHLO RINE

A. FREE AVAIL ABLE CHLO RINE
1.

Fill the test tube (0106) to the 10 mL line with sample water.

2.

Add one *Chlorine DPD #1R Tablet (6999), cap tube, and mix to
dissolve tablet.

3.

Insert Chlorine/pH Octa-Slide Bar (3490) into Octa-Slide Viewer
(1100). Match sample color with a pink color standard on the left
side of Octa-Slide Bar. Read results in ppm Free Available
Chlorine.
