Model N9-CD
Backflow Preventer
Installation Instructions
Use only with approved hose bibbs or hose fittings having four or
more full American National Hose (NH) threads.
INSTALLATION: Before installing, flush pipe line to remove scale
and debris. The valve can be installed horizontally or vertically. Install
with the arrow on valve body pointing in the direction of flow. No.
N9-CD is furnished with an inlet gasket, pipe dope or teflon tape
should not be used. To install, thread the N9-CD onto the hose
thread outlet, the built-in non-removable locking feature prevents
removal.
IMPORTANT: These devices are not intended for installation where
emergency or temporary water discharge can cause water dam-
age because they are not designed to be spill free under all service
conditions. For this reason and for maintenance accessibility, these
devices must not be installed inside a wall or any concealed location.
TO DRAIN: Shutoff supply to N9-CD and turn the device counter-
clockwise while applying a gentle pull at the same time. Water will be
observed draining from the inlet connection of the device.
APPLICATIONS: The N9-CD is designed for noncontinuous pres-
sure, backsiphonage protection and health hazard applications such
as chemical dispensers and hose bibbs.
MAINTENANCE: Annual inspection and testing is recommended
since cleaning and checking of all water system safety valves as-
sures maximum life and proper product function.
Maximum Pressure: 125psi
Maximum Temperature: 180°F
Field Test Instructions for Model N9-CD
1. Install the device per the installation instructions.
2. Attach a hose and nozzle to the outlet of the device (Fig. 1).
3. Turn on supply and pressurize the device and the hose. Run
sufficient amounts of water through the nozzle to purge the air.
4. Turn off nozzle and then the supply. There must be no leakage
at the device, hose or the nozzle.
5. Turn the device counterclockwise while applying a gentle pull at
the same time (Fig. 2). A spurt of water should be observed at
the vents of the device. If no water is observed, this indicates a
faulty device. (Retighten device by turning clockwise.)
6. Raise the hose and the nozzle to a height of 10 feet (3 meters)
and hold for five (5) minutes (Fig. 3). If there is a continuous
leakage of water at the vents, this indicates a faulty device.
7. If the device passes steps 5 and 6, it should be reported as
functional.
8. If the device fails either step 5 or 6 or both, it must be repaired
or replaced.
