5 Troubleshooting
5.1 Problems and their solutions
Problem Cause Remedy
Marked drop in
pressure Leak in the system. Check and seal connections (see Chapter 2.5,
page 14).
Marked rise in pres-
sure 6.2821.120 inline filter
blocked. Replace 6.2821.130 filter (see Chapter 4.6,
page 79).
MSM – blocked. ￭ Regenerate the MSM (see Chapter
4.11.3.1, page 84).
Note: 6.2821.180 pump tubing connection
with filter must be used (29-
3 ).
Conductivity detector
blocked. ￭ Shorten capillary ends by several mm (see
Chapter 4.13.1, page 92).
￭ Rinse detector against the normal flow
direction (see Chapter 4.13.1, page 92).
Guard column – blocked. Replace guard column (see Chapter 2.20,
page 58).
Separation column –
blocked. ￭ Regenerate separation column (see Chap-
ter 4.14.4, page 93).
￭ Replace separation column (see "Connect-
ing and rinsing the separation column",
page 61).
Note: Samples should always be microfiltered
(see Chapter 4.7, page 81).
Injection valve – valve
blocked. Have the valve cleaned (by Metrohm service
technicians).
Drift of the baseline Thermal equilibrium not yet
attained. Condition (see Chapter 2.15, page 44) instru-
ment with the column thermostat switched
on .
Leak in the system. Check and seal connections (see Chapter 2.5,
page 14).
