III INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
A. Installation Steps
1. UBEC 1C and UBEC 1S controllers are surface mountable. Therefore, only mounting holes and
wire access holes are necessary for installation. Measure and mark mounting location for wire
cutout and mounting screw holes. Make sure there is clearance for the controller before drilling the
holes. Please refer to Figure 7 on page 16.
2. Drill or cut the 1 inch wire access hole and the clearance holes for #8-32 mounting holes.
3. Place the control module in position and secure with #8-32 mounting screws. It is recommended
that a lock washer is used on the back side of the panel to ensure the mounting screws do not loosen.
4. Connect and secure the wires. (See wiring recommendations below & fuse specs on page 14)
a. UBEC 1S: Connect power and ground to the controller & valve. Connect valve function leads
from the controller to the valve. (Figure 5 on next page)
b. UBEC 1C: For a single controller setup see Figure 6 on next page.
c. UBEC 1C: For system with multiple controllers or valves that share the CAN line.
Connect power & ground to the controller(s) and valve(s).
Connect CAN wiring from the first to the last component using a CAN Connector Kit (P/N
37221001) at each of the components in between the first and last.
The distance from the CAN Connector Kit to the components that are not at either end of the
main CAN line must not exceed 3 ft. Distances from CAN Connector Kits to each other or to
the components at the ends of the main CAN line should not exceed 500 ft. when added
together.
When done there should be continuity between all CAN LOW contacts (Green wires in
connector position A), CAN HIGH contacts (Blue wires in connector position B), and CAN
SHIELD contacts (Black wires in connector position C) throughout the entire CAN
communication wiring harness.
5. Power up the controller and initiate Automatic Valve Position Calibration. (See Automatic Valve
Position Calibration)
