Timing Belt Replacement

ROTATE CRANKSHAFT SO THAT TIMING
DOTS ON CAMSHAFT AND CRANKSHAFT ARE
ALIGNED.
LOOSEN CAM ADAPTOR BOLT ENOUGH SO
THAT THE UPPER PULLEY CAN BE
TILTED
FORWARD
. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO
COMPLETELY REMOVE UPPER PULLEY.
SLIDE THE OLD BELT OFF THE UPPER PULLEY.
D O N O T R O TAT E C A M S H A F T O R
CRANKSHAFT ONCE BELT IS REMOVED.
BEFORE REPLACING TIMING BELT, MAKE
SURE THAT THE UPPER AND LOWER PULLEYS
ARE FREE OF ANY
OIL OR DEBRIS
. CHECK
THE CONDITION OF THE TEETH ON THE
PULLEYS AND REPLACE IF EXCESSIVE WEAR
IS NOTICED.
ENGAGE THE NEW BELT INTO THE LOWER
PULLEY. CAREFULLY WRAP BELT AROUND THE
UPPER PULLEY AND TILT THE UPPER PULLEY
BACK ONTO THE CAM ADAPTOR. TIGHTEN
CAM ADAPTOR BOLT AND TORQUE TO PROPER
SPECS.

1/4-28
14 FT / LBS
5/16-18
26 FT / LBS
5/16-24
28 FT / LBS
3/8-16
45 FT / LBS
3/8-24
50 FT / LBS
7/16-20
70 FT / LBS
NOTICE:
- REPLACE BELT IF IT BECOMES CONTAMINATED WITH ENGINE OIL.
- REPLACE BELT
ANNUALLY
OR AFTER ANY TYPE OF
ENGINE FAILURE
.
- DO NOT CLEAN TIMING BELT WITH ANY TYPE OF CHEMICAL CLEANER.
- COVER BELT DRIVE SYSTEM IF OPERATED ON ABRASIVE TRACK SURFACES.
- IT IS RECOMMENDED TO DEGREE CAMSHAFT AFTER REPLACING TIMING BELT.

CAM TIMING ADJUSTMENTS:
LOOSEN FOUR NUTS ON THE SPIDER. TURN
THE CRANKSHAFT CLOCKWISE TO RETARD
THE CAMSHAFT TIMING AND COUNTER
CLOCKWISE TO ADVANCE THE CAMSHAFT
TIMING. EACH MARK ON THE SPIDER GEAR
EQUALS 2 DEGREES AT THE CRANKSHAFT.
