Requirements
Items
A volume whose capacity is less than 8GB (9,676 cylinders) cannot be a pool volume.
The LDEV format operation can be performed on pool-VOLs if one of these conditions is satisfied:
LDEV format
•
The THP V-VOL defined for the pool does not exist.
•
All THP V-VOLs defined for the pool are blocked.

THP V-VOL (V-VOL)
Volume type
The LDEV number is handled in the same way as for normal volumes.
3390-A
Emulation type
Up to 63,232 per system. Any number of available THP-VOLs can be associated with a pool.
Maximum number of
THP V-VOLs
Up to 63,232 volume groups per system. If external volumes and V-VOLs are used, the total
number of external volumes and V-VOLs must be 63,232 or less.
For 3390-A, volume capacity from 1 cyl to 262,668 cyl per volume.
Volume capacity
When you perform the format operation on a THP V-VOL, the storage system releases the
allocated page area in the THP V-VOL. The used capacity of the pool is then decreased in size
equivalent to that of the formatted THP V-VOL capacity.

Requirements for increasing THP V-VOL capacity
You can increase THP V-VOL capacity up to 262,668 cylinders.
The following requirements are important when increasing the THP V-VOL capacity:
•
The emulation type is 3390-A.
•
The THP V-VOL to be increased is not shared with a HP XP7 Storage product that does not
allow increasing the THP V-VOL (See
“Increasing THP V-VOL capacity” (page 140)
).
•
The THP V-VOL is not undergoing LDEV formatting.
•
The capacity to be added to the THP V-VOL must be specified within the range indicated
below LDEV Capacity in the Expand V-VOLs window.
•
You cannot add capacity to the THP V-VOL while the pool related to the target THP V-VOL is
in any one of the following statuses:
◦
Exceeding the subscription limit threshold
◦
In progress of pool capacity shrinking
