4.4 METERING ROLLER
The metering roller provided in each compartment is designed to
accommodate all products for seeding small oil seeds all cereals as well as
granular fertilizer. A straight fluted (bean) roller is used for large pulses as
well as granular fertilizer.
There are sections that make up the roller which can be replaced if damage
occurs. If there is a damaged section the product gate above the roller can be
closed if there is still product in the tank.
NOTE: Ensure roller is gate reopened to commence seeding.
There are two colored roller sections on some meters. The red sections have
less displacement than the black sections. When a machine’s air distribution
system has tower heads with different outlets your seeding rate can be out.
EX:
64’ with 12” spacing tool bar has 64 runs.
Having 8 outlet meter feeding 64 runs; every tower would have 8 runs
per tower. The roller sections are all black for this example.
EX:
65’ with 10” spacing tool bar has 78 runs.
Having an 8 outlet meter feeding 78 runs; the furthest towers will have
to be 9 run heads and the other 6 towers would need 10 run heads. A 9
run head has a higher seeding rate than a 10 run head. The red
sections are then used to decrease the seeding rate for the 9 run
heads. Having done this, the seeding rate across the tool bar will be
even.
