Installation Steps
INSTALLATION STEPS FOR WINDOWS USERS
The following sections cover installation and configuration steps
for the Presto Gigabit Server PCIe card in a Windows computer.
Installation Preparation
Sonnet strongly recommends that you read the section in your
computer’s user manual that addresses PCI card installation, prior
to installing the Presto Gigabit Server PCIe into your system.
Card Installation Steps
1. Shut down your computer, and then open it to access the
expansion card area (PCI slots); refer to your computer’s user
manual for specific information.
2. locate an available x4 (4-lane) or x8 (8-lane) PCI Express slot
inside your computer and remove its access cover.
3. remove the Sonnet card from its packaging, and then install
it into the PCI Express slot;
make sure the card is firmly
seated and secured.
4. Close your computer.
5. Plug in one or two twisted pair Ethernet cables to the Presto
Gigabit Server PCIe card.
Software Installation and Card Configuration—
Windows (all Versions Except XP and Server 2003)
after starting Windows, the base drivers that enable the Presto
Gigabit Server PCIe card to operate in your system are installed
automatically. In order to access the Sonnet adapter’s advanced
features such as teaming, etc., you must download and install
additional software.
1. log onto the Internet. Go to http://www.sonnettech.com/
support/kb/kb.php, click on the Computer Cards link, and
then click on the PCIe Cards link.
2. locate and click the Presto Gigabit Server PCIe link, then
the driver link, and then click Presto Gigabit Server PCIe
Software (Windows, Except XP and Server 2003). Click the
download now link; you will be redirected to a new page.
3. locate the correct “network adapter driver for Windows”
software for your system, and then click download; another
page will load. read the license agreement, and then select
the “I accept the terms in the license agreement” radio
button. When offered the option to run or save the file,
select save as, select a save location, and then click Save;
the software will be downloaded. When the download is
complete, click Close.
4. locate the file you just downloaded, and then double-click
it to launch the software installer. follow the onscreen
instructions, making sure that the “Intel ProSET for
Windows device Manager” and “advanced network
Services” options are selected for installation when the Setup
Options window appears.
5. after the software installation is complete, configure the
Presto card by changing network settings. Click Start, and
then select Control Panel. In the Control Panel window,
double-click network and Sharing Center. In the Network
and Sharing Center window, click the “Change adapter
settings” link on the left. In the next window, the Presto
card’s ports are identified as “Intel(r) PrO/1000 PT dual
Port Server Connection #1” and “Intel(r) PrO/1000 PT dual
Port Server Connection #2”. double-click one of the icons to
bring up the Properties window to make basic changes; click
Configure to access the card’s advanced features.
Software Installation and Card Configuration—
Windows XP and Server 2003
after starting Windows, the base drivers that enable the Presto
Gigabit Server PCIe card to operate in your system are not
installed automatically. You must download and install software
through the Sonnet Website to support the Presto Gigabit Server
PCIe card in your computer. This software will also enable the
Sonnet adapter’s advanced features, such as teaming, etc.
1. Turn on your computer; during startup, a Hardware Wizard
window will appear; click Cancel.
2. log onto the Internet. Go to http://www.sonnettech.com/
support/kb/kb.php, click on the Computer Cards link, and
then click on the PCIe Cards link.
3. locate and click the Presto Gigabit Server PCIe link,
then the driver link, and then click Presto Gigabit Server
PCIe Software (Windows XP and Server 2003). Click the
download now link; you will be redirected to a new page.
4. locate the correct “network adapter driver for Windows”
software for your system, and then click download; another
page will load. read the license agreement, and then select
the “I accept the terms in the license agreement” radio
button; two new windows will open.
5. In the top window, click Save, select a save location, and
then click Save; the software will be downloaded. When the
download is complete, click Close.
