5.0 Storing Generator

Proper storage preparation will help prevent corrosion damage and help extend the life of the fuel system. Prior to

storage clean the generator entirely with a damp rag. To prevent fuel oxidizing, entirely drain the fuel system (see

Section 6). If this is not possible, fill the fuel tank entirely to reduce the air in the tank (air hastens fuel oxidation)

and ensure a quality gasoline stabilizer is used per the manufacturer's recommendations. It is also good practice to

change the oil before long term storage. Follow the procedure in Section 5 and the steps below.

1. Remove the spark plug and pour about a tablespoon of clean engine oil into the cylinder.
2. Crank the engine several times to distribute the oil.
3. Reinstall the spark plug.
4. Pull the starter grip until resistance is felt. This indicates the compression stroke and both the valves are closed.

Storing the engine in this state helps prevent internal corrosion.

Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive. You can be burned or otherwise seriously

injured improperly handling fuel. STOP the engine and let it fully cool before adding or

draining fuel. Remove all sources of ignition, heat, and spark from the immediate area.

Wipe up spills immediately.

WARNING! FIRE HAZARD

1. Turn the Engine Switch to the OFF position.
2. Attach a hose to the drain on the carburetor and route the hose into an approved gasoline container.
3. Turn the fuel valve to the ON position, and loosen the carburetor drain screw to drain the gasoline.
4. After the fuel tank has been drained, with the drain screw loosened, disconnect the spark plug wire and pull the

starter grip 3 to 4 times to clear the gasoline from the fuel pump.

5. Turn the fuel valve to the OFF position, and tighten the drain screw securely.
6. Pull the starter grip until resistance is felt. This indicates the compression stroke and both the valves are

closed. Storing the engine in this state helps prevent internal corrosion.
