Grounding the transmitter
In certain conditions, RGB and computer video transmitters
may need to be grounded to ensure the video and audio are not
degraded. Grounding may be required for the CAT 5 T 15HD,
CAT 5 T 15HD AV, and CAT 5 T BNC if all of the following
conditions are true:
•
The signal source is a laptop computer.
•
No local monitor is connected.
•
A local power supply is not being used.
Grounding may also be required if there is no common ground
in the power distribution system.
Indications that grounding may be required include:
•
The receiver’s Power LED is lit amber when a connection
is made to the transmitter.
•
The receiver is in auto mode and the receiver’s Manual/
Auto LED flashes.
•
The receiver is in manual mode and an image appears
only when the Peaking adjustment is at the minimum
level. Additionally, the image may appear overpeaked
with horizontal streaking to the right of displayed
information.
•
No audio, or distorted and noisy audio, is heard.
The transmitter can be gounded using any of the following
methods:
•
Connect a local 15V power supply to the transmitter.
•
Use STP rather than UTP cable and connectors.
•
Use a 3.5 mm captive screw connector to connect a
ground wire between the return pin on the power
connector (figure 2-2) and a grounding point near the
transmitter, such as a grounded power outlet or an
equipment rack.

Computer video and PC audio
The CAT 5 T 15HD AV (figure 2-3) and the CAT 5 T 15HD A
(figure 2-4) both accept and transmit computer video and PC
audio. These transmitters can also accommodate component
video, S-video, or composite video if input on the R, G, and B
pins of the 15HD connector using an Extron SY VGA cable, part
#26-173-01.

Transmission of component video, S-video, or composite video
requires that internal jumpers be reconfigured. See Jumpers in
this chapter.
