14. Appendix B - Health and Safety
YSI pH 4, 7 & 10 Buffer Solutions: 3821, 3822, 3823
pH 4 Ingredients:
) Potassium Hydrogen Phthalate
) Formaldehyde
) Water
pH 7 Ingredients:
) Sodium Phosphate, Dibasic
) Potassium Phosphate, Monobasic
) Water
pH 10 Ingredients:
) Potassium Borate, Tetra
) Potassium Carbonate
) Potassium Hydroxide
) Sodium (di) Ethylenediamine Tetraacetate
) Water
CAUTION - Avoid inhalation, skin contact, eye contact or ingestion. May
affect mucous membranes.
Inhalation may cause severe irritation and be harmful. Skin contact may cause irritation;
prolonged or repeated exposure may cause Dermatitis. Eye contact may cause irritation or
conjunctivitis. Ingestion may cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
FIRST AID:
INHALATION - Remove victim from exposure area to fresh air immediately. If
breathing has stopped, give artificial respiration. Keep victim warm and at rest. Seek
medical attention immediately.
SKIN CONTACT - Remove contaminated clothing immediately. Wash affected area
with soap or mild detergent and large amounts of water (approx. 15-20 minutes).
Seek medical attention immediately.
EYE CONTACT - Wash eyes immediately with large amounts of water (approx.
15-20 minutes), occasionally lifting upper and lower lids. Seek medical attention
immediately.
INGESTION - If victim is conscious, immediately give 2 to 4 glasses of water and
induce vomiting by touching finger to back of throat. Seek medical attention
immediately.
