2. You will notice a small black clip clamping the plastic wiper cowl to the fiber
glass body ridge. Use a small screwdriver to pry this clip loose and set it aside for
a moment.
3. You have been provided with a small stainless steel square. This square has been
supplied to provide a platform in which the new cover will rest. To install this part
wipe the underside of the hood safety hook just to the left of the battery
protruding from the inside of the fender with rubbing alcohol to clean the surface.
Once this area is clean, peel the red release liner from the top of the plate and
stick it to the underside of the hood hook. Set the plate so that it has about ¼ inch
on the right side [towards the front of the car] of the hook leaving the larger
remaining areas to surround the rest of the hook. This will create an adequate
platform for the new cover to rest upon. To permanently anchor this plate drill a
pilot hole into the hood hook directly down into the plate using the drill bit
countersink tool provided. Counter sink the hood hook enough so that the black
flat head screw provided will sit into the drill area nice and flush and then install
the screw.
4. Temporarily position the new cover in place by manipulating the cover so that the
open notch in the cover sits nicely in place over the support plate you just
installed. Lift the new cover up at the side and mark its end location directly to the
plastic wiper cowl with a pencil or marker then remove the cover.
5. Wipe clean the area under the wiper cowl with alcohol and then swipe the area
once with the adhesive promoter provided. Once this is done peel the red release
liner from the top of the new cover bracket provided and then set it into the wiper
cowl area you just prepared an be sure to line up the edge of the bracket with the
mark you place earlier. Set the bracket just a hair to the inside of the mark to give
some maneuverability. Set the small metal clip you removed earlier so that it clips
the new bracket and the fiberglass body tab together. The clip is not large enough
to clip the plastic cowl as well so the clip will work fine if you allow it to slip
under the cowl.
6. You will notice that both the small square tap you installed and the battery cover
bracket contain Velcro attachment areas with the opposite sides attached. Remove
the release liner from the attachment Velcro halves leaving them in place on the
bracket and square.
7. Apply some adhesive promoter to the under side of the new cover at the areas of
attachment and then slowly set the new cover in place so that the attachment
Velcro lines up with the cover allowing it to stay in place. Remove the cover once
more to firmly press the Velcro to the new cover and then reinstall. Remove the
protective liner and replace the factory hood gasket.
