3.2 Principle of operation
The PLICSRADIO series consists of the following instruments:
•
PLICSRADIO T61 (single channel emitting unit)
•
PLICSRADIO T62 (multiple channel emitting unit)
•
PLICSRADIO R61 (single channel receiving unit)
•
PLICSRADIO R62 (multiple channel receiving unit)
•
PLICSRADIO D61 (single channel indicating unit)
•
PLICSRADIO C62 (multiple channel processing unit)
The instruments of the PLICSRADIO series are designed for wireless
transmission and indication of 4 … 20 mA/HART signals and switch-
ing statuses. They are used when the installation of a signal cable
from the sensor to the processing/indication unit is not possible or
too costly. Operation of the radio link is licence, registration as well as
cost free.
All instruments are available in two frequency versions, as standard
version with 2.4 GHz or as version for increased effective radius with
920 MHz.
1)
The 2.4 GHz version works partly in the same frequency range as
the WLAN standard according to 802.11b/g. Due to the issued FCC
approval, simultaneous operation of both radio systems is ensured
without interferences. In individual cases this could slightly reduce the
range of the two radio systems if there is frequency overlapping. This
can be excluded by a targeted WLAN channel selection. The WLAN
channels 1 … 6 and 13 … 14 operate in frequency ranges other than
those of the PLICSRADIO devices, thus mutual influence is not pos-
sible.
The max. distance with intervisibility can be up to 1000 m (2.4 GHz)
or 1600 m (920 MHz) depending on the radio frequency and antenna
version. This effective range may be considerably reduced due to
local conditions (e.g. walls, ceilings, buildings, plants). For extremely
difficult structural landscapes, a separate antenna is available which
can be placed at an optimal reception location.
On instruments with one of the optional interfaces (RS232/Ethernet),
the measured values can be retrieved via modem or network and
displayed by means of a web browser, Visual VEGA or WEB-VV. It is
also possible to send measured values and messages via e-mail. The
use of PLICSRADIO R61 is particularly suitable for stocktaking, VMI
(Vendor Managed Inventory) and remote enquiry.
