In April 1999 the Spicer® Heavy Axle and Brake Division will incorporate the use of High Performance
pinion bearings in all of the heavy tandem production models listed above. New inner and outer pinion bearing cones and
cups have been released that have been enhanced for durability and longevity, the parts are visually identical in
appearance to the previous design parts but provide increased performance and are an improved product. The new parts
can be identified by looking at the vendor identification numbers stamped into the parts, identification of old can identify
the new parts and new parts are shown below.
The pinion pilot bearing part number 126187 was also upgraded but it will be a running change. The size and number of
the rollers in each design can visually identify the bearing. The current bearing has 16 rollers that are smaller in size
compared to the new bearing, which has 14 large rollers. The bearings larger diameter rollers not only increase the
capacity of the bearing but also provide for a better and more durable performing part to the industry. The pinion pilot
bearing 126187 is used in several models not listed above and for those models they will also get the new enhanced pilot
bearing and it’s benefit. In May 1999 all service related kits and assemblies for the models listed above will be upgraded
with the new parts.
NOTE: THE NEW BEARINGS ALTHOUGH DIFFERENT IN PROFILE AND DURABILITY ARE TOTALLY
INTERCHANGEABLE WITH THE CURRENT PRODUCTION PARTS. COMPONENT MIXING CAN BE DONE
WITHOUT DETRIMENT, BUT THE LONGTERM BENIFITS MAY NOT BE TOTALLY REALIZED.
