Dana Gear Set Modifications
Shown below are specific changes to note when rebuilding. If you have any problems with assembly, double-check your parts and the
notes shown below. Contact your local
Spicer representative for further help.
OIL SEAL:
IF the pinion-bearing cage is included
in this kit, or you’re updating the axle
with a newer pinion-bearing cage, the
oil seal MUST also be updated. The
outer diameters of the seals are different
and they are NOT interchangeab
le.
PINION BEARING CAGE:
IF included in this kit, the pinion-bearing cage is necessary to adapt the 18-inch
gearing used in newer axles to axles built with smaller ring gears. The cage
correctly positions the drive pinion for the larger gear. Set up pinion bearings
as instructed in the appropriate Dana service manual.
PINION YOKES:
The involute splines used on
the drive pinion require a
compatible yoke or flange.
The chart below indicates
yokes currently from Dana
(Spicer) for these gear sets.
